I would sprinkle little illustrations that were playful and irreverent, tone considerations we had set for the Yelp brand. I always had to be conscious of the way the user would encounter these as well as their various size considerations.

Mid-century + DIY acted as the base inspiration - askew angles, sketchy lines, and warm tones defined the style. Replicating these key style elements carried the consistency far – individual illustrations don’t need to look exactly the same, just have to match.

An experiment in three different styles.
Sketching is instrumental to my process for three reasons:
• easy to present to stakeholders – no major distractions (think: wireframes)
• allow flexibility of idea if feedback changes concept (work out technical aspects)
• help easily explore multiple ideas
Sketching your ideas first is much faster to explore various conceptual ideas.
I went back to art school to study figure drawing in 2017 and honed my craft.
